Editors from the Vigil sat down for an interview with new Dean of the College, Dr. Lena Hill. We discussed a wide range of topics, from her vision for W&L to the controversy surrounding her hiring. This interview was recorded prior to the decision to rename campus buildings was announced, so we asked Dean Hill for a quote regarding the name of the building housing her office, previously called the Lee-Jackson House: “It is an honor to have my office in Simpson House. Pamela Simpson not only helped transform W&L from an all male institution into a coeducational university, she worked to ensure this change was positive. As Professor Simpson mentored women faculty members and students, she insisted W&L live up to our most deeply held values. Working in an office space named for her will daily remind me of the trust I have accepted.”
